Flashback: Steven and Josephine's Wedding - The Changing Attire of Weddings
As you can tell from the picture above - it's safe to say that wedding dress and attire has changed dramatically over the decades.
Steven and Josephine's wedding occurred on June 1988, and it is evident that the trends have shifted. Josephine wore a long lace dress which was high neck and covered her legs.
Kelsey Borresen stated in the Huffington Post that the 1980s wedding style was long cathedral trains, full-length veils and lace edged frills. This is due to the dress that Princess Diana wore in 1981 and it set a paradigm for the 'fantasy wedding' and the style dominated this decade with puffy sleeves and dramatic trains.
Josephine had a full-length veil and said: "Well I just went with what was in fashion." Whilst, Princess Diana did not have a high neck - it was still a popular feature in the 1980s. She had her dress specially handmade in the Philippines through a family friend, which is why her dress was so detailed.
It makes it even more evident the changing of generations when picturing today's wedding dresses. Reality and entertainment shows such as 'Say Yes To The Dress' have popularised the importance of buying the right gown - but also highlights just how expensive wedding dresses have become. Josephine had her's made for £500 but now it would have cost her at least £1,000.
It just illustrates further how the trends have shifted from being covering the neck and having full-length dresses to having skin on show and even the accessibility of the dress in different colours.
