Denim is something that is always in fashion but the way denim is worn is something that's constantly changing and evolving. From 'drain pipe' skinny jeans to the classic Levi 501s, jeans are part of most people's wardrobes. This photo of my dad shows how 'cuffing' your jeans was a big trend 20 years ago. 'Cuffing' jeans isn't as big as it was back then. The skinny jean is definitely more in favour now for men! My dad didn't just used to cuff jeans he cuffed any trousers and whilst some of this is because he's 5ft 6, a lot of it has to do because of fashion! He said:
"This look was also known as pegging (your pants) and definitely fashionable amongst bands, such as Bros and a-ha amongst others at the time.
"Key was the use of stonewash jeans, and the tight roll was the effect to get. It worked well with white trainers and (sad to say) white socks. For me with short legs, it was a practical godsend before the advent of shorter inside leg length jeans, because it meant avoiding getting them shortened, which tended to ruin the general effect of the quasi-industrial/working appearance that jeans had long sought to portray"
Rolling up your trousers potentially has its origins in men protecting the ends of their trousers from mud on unpaved roads. However, this evolved in the 1980s to a fashion trend amongst young males. Like my dad mentioned for many bands of the time this was a signature look which is probably how it became so popular in fashion.

The look was best achieved on the classic Levi 501s. A style of jean that are much coverted by vintage clothing lovers - both male and female! Any good vintage shop will stock a pair.
