“One day about five or six years ago, we we’re having a big clear out of our house, and re-decorating some of the bedrooms. My mum found her old wedding band in her jewellery box when she was re-organising.

It’d gotten too small for her and she’d turned round to me and said “Oh I don’t wear this anymore, it’s my first wedding ring. It doesn’t fit me anymore so I’d really like you to have it." I obviously said yes because who doesn't like to be given such gorgeous presents?

It’s such a beautiful ring. The ring is 18 carrot gold, so it’s so valuable. I only ever wear it on special occasions or when I’m missing my parents when at I’m in Lincoln at university. I’d be so upset if I ever lost it so I make sure I take special care of it.

The ring is precious to me as it reminds me of my parents and their love for each other. They’ve been together 30 years but married for 25 years this November. So, it means a lot to me because I like thinking about them, and it’s a beautiful ring.

I love wearing it, it fits me perfectly so it makes me happy because it makes me feel quite like my mum. And, everyone who knows me and has seen my parents - always compares me to my dad. So it's nice to be similar to my mum for a change.”
