"My bracelet is one of my most special possessions I have now, I got it about four or five years ago now, when I was still in secondary school. I haven’t taken it off since I got it. My dad works a lot so he brought it when he was on a long weekend business trip in Cape Town in South Africa.
My dad gave it to me as a present when he got back. The bracelet came on a piece of card, which said how the bracelet is about traditions. It does mean something more, but because I got it so long ago I’ve forgotten what the exact meaning is now.
It’s made from brass and copper, which is good for me as I’m allergic to almost everything – especially when it comes to jewellery, I usually have sterling silver for everything but this is ok, it doesn’t irritate me at all.
My dad used to work so much, we’d had to get used to not seeing him for a few days. He’d go abroad every other week or weekend, but be at home during some weeks. It still meant that I didn’t see him or get to spend as much time with him as I’d have liked to.
It’s so special to me because it is something that will always remind me of my dad. It’s why I’ve insisted on wearing it all time, I can just look down and it’s kind of nice as it makes me feel close to him even though he was in a completely different country.
Now, my dad doesn’t work abroad as much as he did now, but it still reminds me of home now I’m at university. Plus it’s a pretty bracelet, which is even better."
